Turbo Tax or Intuit more specifically is a ripoff. They continue to raise their price yet provide poor, if not shoddy service. Their price has increased from $39.99 for Deluxe to $59.99 in a few short years. If the consumer was receiving a better product and accurate...

Agree - I paid fees to Turbo Tax total $86 but they took $126 out of my refund and when i call them their auto system says I used their free service and if I want to speak to an agent I have to agree to pay them another $30. RIPOFF. I will never use them again (after using them for several years) and will tell everyone I know of my experience.

I received a mailer from Quicken saying that "To prevent service interruption, simply upgrade with the enclosed CD by April 30, 2012." Previously when you bought a quicken cd there was no 'service interruption' date. You were encouraged to upgrade to benefit from new...

I'm pretty shocked by this move of Intuit's. When I purchased my copy of Intuit 2011 I was never informed that the product would stop working in 2014.

To me this looks like false advertising / misrepresentation on behalf of Intuit.

Intuit in Kalamazoo, Michigan - TurboTax beware

Update by user Oct 06, 2011

In the sentence \"and there telephone service is\" contains a typo. It should be \"their\" and not \"there\".

Sorry for the confusion.

The main idea of TurboTax charging people before providing the product and the complete lack of customer service remains as stated. Anyone who does their own taxes should stay away from TurboTax.

Original review posted by user Oct 06, 2011

I have been a customer of TurboTax for some years now and it works fine. However, this year after I ordered the 2011 edition which they say will be shipped in Novermber, I noticed they have ALREADY charged my visa for the deluxe edition. In years past they have always charged the visa AFTER it was shipped, which is the normal practice of most mail order companies. TurboTax did not state this and there is NO WAY to contact them---no email capability for a question, and there telephone service is non-operational till tax season. Thus, these shysters just charge for something they have not shipped yet and then provide no way of contacting them. This will be the last time I use these people. I suggest, if you want a tax prep program, that people use TaxAct or one of the others. TurboTax has now taken the low road in both customer service and billing procedures. The other tax programs are just as good(I have friends who use them)while providing much better customer service. I would hate to have a real problem with TurboTax---you would no be able to contact them. What a joke they have become. Stay away---a word to the wise.

They did the same to me. Buy it one year, and they kept billing me year after year for their online service, even when I didn't use it.

And they apparently think its my fault for not cancelling--no refund for me.

Beware these guys. They think we are all cash cows.

I checked my turbotax account online and it shows the 59.95 order but nothing at all about any auto renewal. I know I never knowingly did that anyway.

I always just receive a letter from turbotax saying it is time to order the new one, sometime in august or sept. or thereabouts. I go online and order it. This year, they seem to have charged my credit card before they even sent the thing in november!!

I am planning on getting a new computer sometime soon and will thus lose the ability of turbotax to transfer all my info from prior year, etc. This is a good time to try TaxAct or one of the others.

They all seem to be cheaper than turbotax and from what I have seen, at least of taxact, just as easy. Why pay turbotax even before they ship the product when you can get a similar product cheaper?

I thought the same thing had happened to me a few years back. In fact, I HAD signed up for auto renewal because of the price guarantee. Also, I've never had any problem w/ their customer service. In fact, I've found them to be very helpful.

Truly, I had said the same thing, "I wouldn't have signed up for auto renewal." Then I remembered that I had, as I said, for the price guarantee/discount. And it does charge early, sometime in the fall, which is OK as long as you remember that that's what happens. I was taken by surprise that first year, too.

Still love Turbo Tax! I started using it when I found out that the comptroller for Culver City uses it! Figured if it was good enough for him, it was good enough for me!

Similar experience here - except that they charged my account BEFORE I'd even ordered the product!

They claim I signed up for automatic renewal of the product, which in NO WAY would I ever have done!

Intuit in Chicago, Illinois - Never got a loan after going through all their BS.

This is the most unprofessional company in the world. They are *** I have never had a more frustrating experience in my life. They told me my loan would be a simple quick process and now after almost 6 weeks of mismanagement they have cancelled the loan on me and refuse to give me the credit that was promised me and would have been due me at close. I have nothing positive to say about Quicken Loans and am considering even discontinuing the use of Intuit products altogether as well. I have nothing good to say about any of the people I dealt with at this awful company.

Intuit has forced customers to upgrade to 2011 at a cost, in my case, of ~$400.00. However, that is only for one license so, if you had two user license like I did, that will cost you another $299.00. So for ~ $700.00 I can get back to the configuration I had before ...

Intuit in Ashland, Oregon - Awful Customer Service and Lack of Communication

First off, if you can't understand English from a Hindi accent, don't bother to call. I called their Customer Service line to clear up what I thought was a bug in their software. I have a payee that bills in 5 consecutive months on a 6 month policy. This means there will be one month without a payment. I can go to the month I want to skip the payment, click on the day the payee is listed and a dialog box pops up with the option to "Skip" that payment. When I click on the "Skip" button another dialog box pops up and asks me if I want to skip the following month. I don't want to skip the following month. I want to skip the month I have shown in front of me. After providing a screen shot and going over and over what I wanted, the representative told me I couldn't do it. All along, a woman was yelling in the background in Hindi at the poor guy. I got no-where over the phone. I mailed a letter to their headquarters explain my problem and the service I was provided. Needless to say, I never got a response. This was two months ago. If you need customer service use their on-line forum. It's your only hope.

Intuit - Quicken Customer Service - None

First off, if you can't understand English with a Hindi accent, don't bother calling. I found what I believed was a bug in their Quicken Software. The representative couldn't get across what I was trying to tell him even with a screen shot. Their was a woman in the background yelling instructions. After a long conversation and going over and over what I wanted, he told me the process couldn't be done. What is that all about? I mailed a letter to their Headquarters and never got a reply. Your only hope is with their on-line forum.

Intuit in Cleveland, Ohio - Quickbooks

Every year I go through the same thing with this company. They are not user friendly. They are only after ways to convince you to spend more money on things that you do not need. I feel used and worked over every time I need to update software. If there is an honest payroll service out here for small business I would love to never here the name quickbooks again. This company uses misleading information to try and get you to purchase huge accounting programs and when you try to keep it simple they make it difficult. I would love to use any other program.

Intuit in San Francisco, California - Turbo Tax/University Bank scam team

They got another one. Evidently this clever pair has figured how to obfuscate and hide about $65 worth of various fees and gotchas so that they deftly can suck a chunk of your tax return away without your knowing it at the moment you hit "send". In my case, they didn't even deliver the promised service of e-depositing the refund into the designated account, but rather just sent me a paper check; minus their substantial suckage fee. They know what they're doing. They make it impossible to get in touch with them unless you feel like giving your SSN to an obviously-questionable "University" bank (which seems to move around alot). STAY AWAY. Turbo Tax was a good product/company once, but would appear they've adopted the predatory ethos of the American Corporatocracy and are now out for *your* blood, honor, ethics and reputation be damned.
